Janeen Ruth Lane Fowler was born to Mildred and Roger Lane in Trumansburg, New York on November 28, 1930. She passed on August 18, 2025.
Janeen graduated from Trumansburg High School, where she was a drummer in the marching band. She then went on to pursue her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. She earned her BSRN at the University of Rochester where she met and married her husband Glenn Fowler, who hailed from Oak Park, Illinois. She traveled with Glenn back to Oak Park, where he joined his parents' business (Chicago Dietetic Supply). Her biggest dream, other than becoming a nurse, was to be a mother, and she and Glenn soon had three children.
Janeen devoted a great deal of time to volunteer work in Illinois with many organizations including the United Church of Christ, Girl Scouts, and West Suburban Hospital, to name just a few.
Janeen and Glenn bought an old cottage on the lakeshore south of Douglas, Michigan in the late 1970's, renovated it, and used it as a second home until they moved in full-time in the mid-1980's. At that point her volunteer activities with Glenn included mission trips with the Community Church of Douglas and supporting the Chamber Music Festival. She was also a member of the Saugatuck Douglas Garden Club and assisted with the children's sailing program at the Saugatuck Yacht Club.
Janeen loved to travel. When Glenn and his family sold their business, they were free to travel. They went to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, biking trips in Europe, the Galapagos, Scandinavia, Antarctica and the North Pole, rafting the Grand Canyon, and more. Her children and grandchildren were privileged to be included in many of these adventures. Janeen loved planning the trips as much as taking them.
After Glenn passed away in 2018, Janeen lived a quiet life in her home, still greatly enjoying her view of the lake on one side and her birdfeeders on the other.
Janeen was proceeded in death by Glenn, her two brothers, and one grandson. She leaves behind three children (Susan, Marianne, and Bill) and their spouses as well as three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. We will all miss her.
A memorial service and reception will be held at noon on September 5th at the Community Church of Douglas. 6874 Wiley Road, Fennville, MI 49408.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Community Church of Douglas or the University of Rochester School of Nursing.
