Janet L. Adkins, 65, of Barnes, passed away at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
Janet was born February 5, 1958, in Topeka, to James L. and Mary Lou (Swager) Adkins. She graduated from Rossville High School in 1976, and later from Fort Scott Community College where she learned to drive trucks. Shortly afterward she received her CDL and began over the road truck driving. After nearly thirty years of driving she retired earlier this year.
Janet had been a member of the Order of the Easter Star. She loved her family and friends, and she had many people who she adopted into her “family”. Anyone was welcome at the table when it was meal time. She also loved to read, Louis L’Amour was one of her favorite authors.
Survivors include her two children: Michelle Brammer of Clay Center and Chris Adkins of Barnes, a brother Jim Adkins of Topeka, a sister Margaret Shelman of Berryville, Arkansas, a brother-in-law, Darrell Eastman of Michigan Valley, thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Preceding Janet in death were her parents, a sister, Valorie Eastman and a grandson, Logan Ascheman.
