Mrs. Janet G.(Doucette) Bianculli

Janet G. (Doucette) Bianculli of Reading passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022. She is 86 years of age. Born in Reading, Massachusetts on Wednesday, February 12, 1936, Janet is the daughter of the late Walter Doucette and Gertrude (Paulsen) Doucette of Stoneham. Janet is predeceased by older brother Gordon Doucette of Woburn, Massachusetts and her younger brother Norman Doucette of Pinellas Park, Florida. Janet grew up in Woburn, Massachusetts, graduating from Woburn High School in 1955. She graduated from Melrose Wakefield Nursing School in 1956 as a registered nurse, starting her career in nursing. Janet worked as an ER Nurse for 21 years at Winchester Hospital. She was an IV Therapist for 21 years at both Winchester Hospital and Lahey Clinic where she was a founding member of the IV Therapy Team at both hospitals. Janet was elected president of Infusion Nurses Society (INS), a national society that develops the standards by which all IV Therapists work. Janet met Robert Bianculli at the Hilltop Bar in Saugus in 1959. Bob saw a woman across the room that he wanted to dance with but as he got closer to her, he changed his mind and continued walking past the woman's table. After turning around to go back to his table, he saw a beautiful woman who was Janet. He decided to ask her to dance and three months later they were engaged to be married. Married to Bob Bianculli, October 3, 1959, they had two children, Theresa and Kurt. Bob and Janet were very happily married for over 58 years until Bob's passing in 2018. Bob always stated that his marriage to Janet made him a better man. A women's libber before anybody even knew what that term meant, Janet was confident and independent. Before marrying Bob, she made it clear that he should never expect her to do what was considered to be "women's work". He loved this about her and together they shared the household chores. Janet made sure that her son, Kurt, knew how to make a bed, iron and fold clothing because, in her words, "He should never expect his wife to do this for him". Janet was an amazing cook. To her, cooking was not a chore but a passion. Janet loved to travel and passed this love on to her children. She traveled all throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii and Canada. Janet made it to almost every country in Europe, North Africa, Central America and the Caribbean. Janet deeply enjoyed history, in particular Colonial US history. She shared her passion for history with her children. Janet loved to do cross stitch. She entered several pieces into the Topsfield fair's judged competition. Her entries were awarded with many receiving a first place ribbon or best in show. Janet was an active member of The Mayflower Sampler Guild of Duxbury, Massachusetts for many years. She was a mentor to many. Janet is survived by her daughter Theresa Lightfoot and her son Kurt Bianculli and his wife Brooke Hinkson and their children, Drew and Jackie Bianculli. A Funeral Service Celebrating Janet's Eternal Life will be held on Wednesday, May 25th at 11am in the Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street READING. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Janet's Family on Tuesday, May 24th from 4-7pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator are available.
