Janet H. Burwell

Janet H. Burwell, age 90, of Inlet, NY, passed away on September 22, 2025 in Albany, NY.

Born in Utica, NY on July 2, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy Scott. Jan was a 1953 graduate of the Town of Webb High School. She graduated from Potsdam State Teachers College (now SUNY Potsdam) in 1957 with a degree in elementary education. In 1958, she married William Burwell of Potsdam, NY. For 48 years, she and her husband operated The Crosswinds, a seasonal resort business in the Adirondack Mountains, Inlet, NY. In addition, she operated The Inlet Gift Center. Jan was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Inlet. For many years she was a member of St. Anthony's Altar and Rosary Society, as well as the Inlet Fire Ladies Auxiliary. Jan was a native and lifelong resident of Inlet, NY. She and her husband also spent many winters in Daytona Beach, FL.

During her life, Jan enjoyed golf, cross country skiing, and took great pleasure in landscaping with fountains and flowers at her homes. She was an avid ice hockey fan and never missed a Pittsburgh Penguins game. She also enjoyed time spent with family and friends playing cards and games. Jan cherished the friendships she made. She was at her happiest spending time with her family and friends.

Jan is survived by her daughter Kim (husband: Bob) Karr of Ballston Lake, NY; two sons, Mark (wife: Rose) Burwell, of Williamsburg, VA, and Scott Burwell, of Hooksett, NH; four grandchildren, Ryan (wife: Julia) Burwell, Lauren Burwell, Willie Burwell, and Jessica Burwell; as well as a great-granddaughter, Hazel Burwell. She was predeceased by her husband, William Burwell.

A funeral mass to celebrate Jan's life will take place at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Inlet, NY on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery in Old Forge, NY immediately following the service.
