Eleanor J. Stanton, 78, of Eagle Bay and formerly of Utica passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025 at the Masonic Care Community, Utica.
She was born on December 1, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of the late, Walter and Helen (Aberth) Smedman. Eleanor graduated from Knickerbocker High School and furthered her education at SUNY Geneseo, earning a bachelor's degree in mathematics and then she graduated with an associate degree in nursing from MVCC and became a registered nurse. On December 12, 1970, she was united in marriage to Robert M. Stanton in the Bronx, NY and shared a blessed union of 55 years. Eleanor was employed with Utica Psychiatric Center as a registered nurse, retiring in 2005. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Athony's of Paduas Church, Eagle Bay Fire Dept. Auxiliary and the Food Pantry at St. Bartholomew's Church.
Eleanor was an avid golfer. She also enjoyed playing card games alongside her husband at the Town of Webb town hall with many of their friends. Eleanor especially enjoyed the summer season in Eagle Bay, boating and spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving are her husband, Bob, Eagle Bay; children, Peter Stanton, VA, Kathleen Staton, VA and Patrick Stanton, Eagle Bay; grandchildren, Chloe and Corey Stanton and brother-in-law, Peter (Kathy) Stanton.
Eleanor's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff with the Masonic Care Community, Home Aide Service of the Central Adirondacks, Inc. (HASCA) and the Inlet Volunteer Emergency Services for all their wonderful care and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 4-6 pm at Dimbleby Funeral Homes, Inc., 128 Fern Ave., Old Forge. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 10 am from St. Anthony's of Paduas Church, Inlet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Remembrances in Eleanor's name may be made to HASCA or the Inlet Volunteer Emergency Services. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
