Janet Elizabeth Casey of Springfield, MO entered eternal rest on Friday, June 2, 2023. She was born and raised in San Francisco, California on January 24, 1933, to Florence Rose and Thomas Henry Foster. Janet married her forever love and father of her children, John Edward Casey on April 21, 1954. They shared 30 years of holy matrimony welcoming six children to their blessed union.
Janet raised her family in Kansas City, MO, before moving to Springfield. After her spouse became ill, she worked in administration at House of Lloyd where she met her dearest and devoted friend to the end, Frances Lankton.
Janet was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Springfield, Missouri. She was dedicated to her faith, her husband, and her children. Janet was a huge Chiefs fan with season tickets a time or two. She loved her vegetable garden, sewing, reading, puzzles, playing cards (especially Gin Rummy), crafts/cross-stitch, and cooking delicious meals for her family! As a youth, she enjoyed daily Mass and played basketball, volleyball, and swam. Her and her husband, Jack, met at a Ball and delighted in dancing. They passed along their mutual love for swimming by ensuring they had a backyard pool to enjoy family time. Janet taught all six children to swim, one of the many gifts she left with them. Janet was a humble example, lived her faith, and will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Casey; parents; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Susan Casey; grandson, Marcus Frank; nine siblings, Regina Doherty, Jane Duane, Edna Martin, Thomas Foster, Florence Gillespie, Elaine O'Donnell, Delores Sargent, Lorna Beaudet, and Paul Foster. Janet is survived by her son, John Patrick Casey; daughter, Cathleen Carol Frank; son, Michael Gerard (Susie) Casey; daughter, Marie Elizabeth Nace; son, Christopher William (Gina) Casey; grandchildren, Paige (Brandon) McCullah, Timothy Casey, Shane (Samantha) Casey, Belle Casey, Chris Casey, Austin Woodward, Lauren Morris, Gabrielle Frank, Marissa Frank, Patrick Nace, Holly Nace, Katherine Nace, Daniel Nace, Joshua (Brenda) Casey, Sarah Casey, Tammy Greenwood-Getman (Jamie), Amy Greenwood, and Jeffrey Greenwood; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 7, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, with Father Thomas P. Kiefer celebrant. Burial will be Friday, June 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO 64138.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for her final expenses in care of John Casey, with prayers and great appreciation from the family.
