Janet McHorney Corbell, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died on December 22, 2024, with family by her side, at the age of 91. Born on September 27, 1933, in Currituck County, North Carolina, Janet was the cherished daughter of Clarence McHorney and Queenie Victoria Swain McHorney. She was married to the late William "Billie" Corbell for forty-six years.
Throughout her life, Janet took great pride in her role as a homemaker, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to her family. She found immense joy in nurturing her children and maintaining a close connection with them every day. Her warmth extended beyond her family, as she cherished the friendships she cultivated over the years, often spending hours talking to her friends on the phone.
Janet possessed a remarkable green thumb, and her home was always adorned with thriving plants, reflecting her love for nature and beauty. Her passion for yard sales and antiquing was well-known; she delighted in discovering unique teapots and knickknacks that added character to her home.
A true animal lover, Janet welcomed all creatures into her heart, finding companionship and joy in their presence. Her special grandbird, Georgie, was a testament to her gentle and caring spirit.
Janet was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.
Her surviving family includes her daughter, Amy Corbell and her husband, Jim, and daughter-in-law, Amanda Corbell. She is also survived by her four sons: William Corbell and his wife Becky, Gary Corbell, Sr. and his wife Nancy, Warren Corbell and his wife Pam, and Keith Corbell and his wife Belinda. Janet's memory will be treasured by her seventeen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence McHorney and Queenie Victoria Swain McHorney; her husband of forty-six years, William "Billie" Corbell; a daughter, Karen Denise Corbell; a son, Larry Wayne Corbell; two grandsons, Justin Corbell and Michael Andrews; a great granddaughter, Gracie Andrews; and one sister and five brothers.
Per Janet's wishes, services will be private, with interment at Poplar Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Grandy, North Carolina.
