Janet R. Detweiler, 91, of New Paris, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the residence of her daughter, Terry. She was born on February 16, 1934 in Windber, a daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth (Barefoot) McMillen. She is survived by three children: Deborah Ruggiero and husband Charlie of Pittsburgh, Teresa “Terry” Hinson widow of Jim of New Paris, and Craig Detweiler of Schellsburg; five grandchildren: Charlie Ruggiero and wife Jaclyn, Ryan Ruggiero and significant other Niki Luu, Angela Thomas and husband Samuel, Breanne Fetsko and husband Eric, and Ty Hinson and wife Beth; eight great-grandchildren: Braden Thomas and wife Marissa, Kailyn Sabo and husband Josh, Taryn Thomas, Abbigail and Joseph Fetsko, Harper and Hattie Hinson, and Charlie Ruggiero; two brothers: George McMillen of New Paris and James McMillen of Bedford; and a sister, Patricia Worrell of Bedford. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Robert C. Detweiler, two brothers: infant Charles McMillen and Richard McMillen, and a sister, Sally Cuppett.
Janet was a member of Chestnut Ridge Fellowship Church and worked at Kennametal for over 25 years before her retirement. She was a mother and a homemaker, and a district manager and representative for Avon.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to caretaker and friend, Mona Rhodes, as well as the entire UPMC Family Hospice staff for their comfort and care to Janet.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Dan Oldham officiating. Burial at Fishertown Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday, October 9, 2025 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Friday one hour prior to the service.
