Obituary of Patricia Mae Detweiler

Patricia Mae Detweiler, 91 of Iowa City went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona, Iowa after 14 years with Alzheimer's.

Online condolences may be sent to her family through the web at www.gayandciha.com. The immediate family will be having a private Celebration of Life in the coming weeks.

Patricia "Pat" was born on February 13,1934 in Coralville, IA, the daughter of Ernest Burgess and Lillian Wineke. She grew up in Coralville, Iowa and attended Fifth Street School, also known as the CoraIlville Public School on 5th Street and University High School. She was first married at the age of 15 and had two children, Michael (Becca) and Patrick Murphy.

On March 15,1957 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ivan Detweiler. The couple first lived in Goshen, Indiana until 1965 when they moved to Iowa City to raise their 6 children.

Pat was a homemaker while the children were in school, and then went to work for National Computer Systems (NCS/Pearson). First and foremost, she loved her family and always put them first, and second was keeping an immaculate home. She accepted Christ as her savior not long before showing signs of Alzheimer's.

Pat retired from National Computer Systems (NCS/Pearson), and besides her love of spending time with family, she and Ivan looked forward to wintering in Big Pine Key, Florida for many years along with her brothers and their wives.

Pat's family includes her children Michael (Becca), Stephen (Marcia), Rhonda, Robin, and Lisa; 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law Mary Burgess and Cora White.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son Pat, parents, brothers Arnold and his wife Shirley, and Paul, brothers-in-law Elmer, LeRoy, Melvin (Buzz), John, Irvin, and Freeman, and sisters-in-law Mary, Alice, Sally, Susie, Jane, and Pearl, and sons-in-law William Finley and Michael Trader.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Pleasant View Home in Kalona who took wonderful care of our mother in the final year of her life.

Yesterday

I worked at NCS/PEARSON at the same time as Pat. We were in different depts but still knew each other & were friends. She was funny & lotsa fun. I liked her alot. Then as so often happens with work friends, we drifted apart after she retired. I didnt know about her having alzheimers. I´m so sorry for all. I hope Pat is sure to hook up with our mutual friend Phyllis in heaven. Jill Baskerville
