BOCA RATON, FL - JANET "JAN" DOCTOFSKY (née Medinets)
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jan Doctofsky, who died on Sunday, June 7, 2025 at the age of 74, after a year-long illness.
Born in Perth Amboy, NJ on September 20, 1950, to Milton and Sadye Medinets, Jan grew up in North Plainfield and later moved down to the Jersey shore, spreading her own sunshine while raising her daughter. After seeing a need in the community, Jan created and directed a brand new child development center. She also volunteered each year with the Jerry Lewis Labor Day weekend Telethon. Later in life, the beach beckoned, and Jan relocated to southern Florida.
In addition to her parents, Jan was also predeceased by her brother, Aaron Medinets; and her sister, Reva Benson.
She is survived by her daughter, Sara Doctofsky, who cared for her with love, strength, and compassion, and remained by her side until the very end. Also surviving is her sister, Sue Green, who alongside Sara, was determined to create meaningful memories and provide the very best care and quality of life during this time. Together, they were a source of comfort for Jan, ensuring that she was surrounded by love and dignity.
Jan will be remembered by her nieces, nephews and many friends, for her laughter and love of fun. She will be deeply missed and will remain in our hearts forever. The family would also like to express heartfelt gratitude to Chique and Brian, whose friendship and encouragement have been a true blessing and a great source of strength.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations can be made to The Cleveland Clinic in Westin Florida, who provided Jan with exceptional care, or to your local Animal Rescue Organization, an acknowledgement of her passion for animals.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 12:45 pm, at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1098 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, under the direction of MOUNT SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPELS, East Brunswick. For directions, please see "Events" listed below.
