Janet Elaine Freyou, 91, of Port Neches, Texas, passed away on February 24, 2025. Though she has held many strong and important titles in her life, Janet's most beloved title was Granny.

Ever a classy lady, Granny was an incredible cook, a passionate servant at her church, a brilliant horticulturist, loved to visit with her favorite people, was a passionate sports fan, and was ever the hospitable and welcoming friend.

She thrived on making her home and her yard beautiful, but mostly she was an ever proud Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother to those she loved the most.

Janet was born on September 27, 1933, to Frank Joseph Lough and Leah Fortune Lough, in Port Arthur, Texas. She graduated from Saint James High School and remained close with all of her high school classmates. In fact, they frequently met for lunch once a month for many years. While Janet worked various jobs in her early years, her true loves were her dedication to her church and to her family.

The door to Janet's home was always open, and she never met a stranger. Many wonderful meals were shared around her table with conversations and laughter that will linger in the hearts of all those that knew her forever. Her yard was a masterpiece-it was full of beautiful vines and flowers that were always in full bloom. One of her favorite things was to have everyone gather In her home for the holidays. She loved cooking and hosting her family and friends for a wonderful meal or a glass of iced tea to celebrate both the important days and just the everyday because having everyone together was her very favorite thing.

Janet also passionately served as mass captain at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church for several years as well as volunteered her time to serve on many boards. She was an avid follower of Port Neches-Groves High School football. She listened to the games every Friday night on FM 92.5 In fact, they would often give her a shout out, and she loved hearing her name on the radio.

Janet was greeted at the gates of heaven by many of her loved ones: her parents and her two brothers who she loved and adored, Phillip Lough and Murlin Lough. The father of her children and good friend, Richard James Freyou, and her long-time best friend, Queen Ester Jacobs-as well as many other classmates and friends.

Janet Is survived by many family members who all adored her-Including her daughters: Renee Cummins and husband, David; Denise Smith and husband, John, Sherri Hunt and husband, Greg; and son: Beau Freyou. She Is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, and their spouses, whom she loved unconditionally and were the true loves of her life: Ross Guidry and wife, Courtney; Reid Guidry and Jordan Hebert; Grant Teaney and wife, Lorena; Ben Teaney; Hayden Hunt and wife, Taylor; and her one and only granddaughter, Grace McDonald and husband, Taylor. Finally, Janet is survived by the sweetest apples of her eye, her great grandchildren: Hayes and Andy Guidry, Jude Hebert, Graysen and Kate McDonald, Josi Hopkins, Nolan and Kase Hunt, and Gloria-Renee Teaney.

While Janet's beloved family Is grieving the days that they will have without her here on Earth, they are so grateful for the days and the memories that they will treasure forever.
