Janet Preston Green

Janet Preston Green passed away Sunday February 12, 2023, at the age of 71 in Tulsa, Oklahoma with her loving husband by her side. After a long battle with Alzheimer's, Jan is now victorious and whole again, united with her Father in heaven.
Jan was born on October 19, 1951, in Marshall, Missouri to her parents, Roy and Bonnie (Wilson) Preston and grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. Jan and her younger sister, Susan, grew up in a loving home spending time with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jan and her sister were especially close despite their eight-year age difference. Her family owned the community pool, and she spent many summers teaching swim lessons. She attended Park Hill High School where her father coached football. Throughout her life she shared fond memories of cheering in the pep club and spending time with him on the football field. She met the love of her life, Tim Green, while pursuing her education degree at the University of Missouri. They were married on August 20, 1972, in Kansas City, Missouri. Jan and Tim were blessed with four children. As a family they enjoyed trips to her parents, sports events, camping, choir concerts, and vacations with family and friends. Jan loved her children immeasurably, and she and Tim fostered a close-knit family that loved and supported each other.
Jan was a beloved teacher for 25 years. Education was her passion, and she touched the lives of numerous students. As a teacher, the environment she cultivated in her classroom brought out the best in everyone. She cherished the camaraderie of working alongside her fellow teachers and was proud to be known as an educator. Jan taught at Green Country Christian Academy and Union Public Schools. She received her Masters in Language Arts from Northeastern State University and was a National Board-Certified Teacher. Jan was also selected as Teacher of the Year in 1992 and 2005. Her impact as an educator will be felt for generations.
Anyone who met Jan could feel there was something special about her and she was quick to share that her faith in Jesus was the center of all aspects of her life. Jan had many roles within the church including Sunday School teacher, camp counselor, youth group sponsor, small group leader, director of children's ministry, and a leader of mission trips to Mexico. One could often find members of the youth group gathered at the Green's home enjoying Jan's famous chocolate chip cookies and leaving with her memorable words of wisdom such as "remember who you belong to", "only talk at stoplights", and "call me when you get there". Jan's unwavering love for all of her "kids" touched countless lives and she welcomed everyone into her home as her own. She had a way of encouraging and mentoring those individuals, awakening in them potential they never saw in themselves. Those who were privileged to know her were better for walking with her.
She is preceded in death by father Roy "Shorty" Preston and mother Bonnie Lee Preston. She is survived by husband Tim Green; daughter Whitney Hicks, son-in-law Keith, grandchildren Matri and Laney; son Matthew Green, daughter-in-law Melissa, grandchildren Preston, McCord and Ryann; son Nathan Green, daughter-in-law Ashley, grandchildren Shelby and Sheyenne; son Jason Green, daughter-in-law Caroline, grandchildren Gentry and Bailey; sister Susan Carter, brother-in-law Dan, and numerous other family members and friends.
The family will be hosting a gathering and time of remembrance that will take place from 6:00-8:00 PM, February 27, 2023 at Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service & Cremation Care, 5757 South Memorial Drive, Tulsa, OK 74145.
Janet's Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM, February 28, 2023 at Jenks Church, 1015 W Main St, Jenks, OK 74037 with Tracy Ellis officiating.
