Janet Dorene Howerton went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, November 6, 2025, in Florence, MS. She was 80 years old. The family will receive friends and extended family for visitation from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. Interment will take place on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Memorial Garden Park in Starkville, MS.
Janet was born on October 4, 1945, to Leon Sparks and Janice Rowe Sparks in Hillsboro, MS. She lived in Starkville, MS for 30 years where she was a dedicated Mississippi State Bulldog fan. Janet lived in the Florence community for the past 20 years where she was a member of the Magic Club and attended Briar Hill Baptist Church. She loved to cook, crochet, and knit.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Howerton; 6 brothers; and 1 sister. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Howerton (Lynn Campbell) of Florence; grandchildren, Taylor Nixon (Robert), and Anna Campbell; great grandchild, Lilly Nixon; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. She will truly be missed.
