Janet Angela Ivacic, affectionately known as Jan to her friends and family, passed away on November 7, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer's and dementia. Born on December 15, 1939, in South Bend, Indiana, Jan's life was a testament to her strength, compassion, and dedication to her loved ones and students.
Jan's early years in South Bend were filled with the joy of exploration and learning, which laid the foundation for her lifelong love of education. She furthered her passion for knowledge at Indiana University South Bend, where she earned her degree in education. It was this passion that she carried into her career as a teacher, shaping the minds and hearts of her students for over 30 years.
Her Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with guidance and strength. Jan's beliefs were exemplified through her actions, as she lived her life with grace and kindness, always extending a helping hand to those in need. Jan was a person we should all strive to be. She was a beacon of light within her community and church, inspiring those around her with her positivity and love.
Jan's personal interests brought joy not only to her but to all who knew her. She cherished her walks, embracing the beauty of nature and the tranquility it offered. Her card parties with friends were legendary, filled with laughter that will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to partake. But above all, Jan's greatest joy was her grandchildren, with whom she shared countless precious moments that will forever be treasured.
Survived by her son, Eric (Alexis) Ivacic, and her daughter, Nicole (Timothy) Primrose, Jan's legacy of love and compassion lives on through them and their families. Though her beloved husband, Jerome Ivacic, preceded her in death, the love and partnership they shared remain an inspiration to all. Also surviving are her sisters; Judith (Clem) Krugh and Jeanne (Leonard) Merrick. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William, Ronald, Robert, and Edward.
As we bid farewell to Jan, we reflect on a life well-lived, a journey marked by love, profound kindness, and an enduring commitment to enriching the lives of others. Jan's memory will continue to be a guiding light to her family, friends, and all the lives she touched. Her spirit, teachings, and love will resonate for generations, reminding us of the extraordinary woman who graced our lives with her presence. Rest in peace, dear Jan, and know that your story is one of profound impact and heartfelt memories.

We were members of the Catholic Sisters book club for so many years. She was always the first person to be ready to greet you with her infectious giggles. I can still hear say my name in greeting as she always reached out to hug me! Jerry was so similar and such a great sidekick! And then also her beautiful dog! Her faith was simple but profound. She just trusted the One she loved so much! My prayers will be with her family as they let her go knowing she´s cracking heaven up with her crazy love, just as she did us! I love you,
Jan! Your sparkling wings are finally fully open for all to see! See you soon!!! Dash
