Janet Dennison Keedy, whose love of life in Dyer County was as deep as the rich soil of the family farm of her youth, died at her Newbern home Wednesday, June 4, after a series of recent illnesses.
Born June 23, 1941, she was married for sixty-four years to career U.S. Navy man Dave Keedy, precipitating many moves for her as a young bride and mother, which she managed incredibly well. For the Trimble High School graduate, retiring to Newbern brought her full circle and it became her final home.
Janet's devotion and love for her family, whether immediate or extended, was predicated by her upbringing on a farm in West TN. Being one of twelve children fostered an instinct to create and nurture a loving home.
Life had many loves for Janet. She wanted her yard to be a haven for all kinds of butterflies and birds which were attracted to the many colorful flowers. No limb could be cut from a tree without her approval. She spent hours working in the dirt, but her home was always spotless. She enjoyed being outdoors, taking naps on her porch swing, and listening to her wind chimes.
Always active, it wasn't unusual to see her riding a 4-wheeler solo across the property or fishing off the bank of a local friend's pond with her husband.
She and Dave were avid Dyer County Choctaw basketball fans, making as many road trips as possible in support of the team. She loved St Louis Cardinal baseball, remaining a loyal fan, even though she had definite opinions as to how they could be more successful.
And, of course there was her love for music. In her younger years she was an Elvis super fan, but her love broadened to include all kinds of music as evidenced by her vast collection of albums, tapes and cds.
Family gatherings were a favorite time for her and she always had stories to share of growing up on the farm and of the pranks she and her brothers were responsible for as youngsters. And, she found joy in the laughter generated by her stories.
Janet cherished her family and friends. She was an excellent baker and her Christmas candies were shared with love. But there was no greater joy than her role as "Me-Me" entertaining her three grandchildren over the years and watching them grow up, and recently welcoming her first great grandchild, Isaiah, who quickly became the light of her life.
Mrs. Keedy was preceded in death by her parents, JP and Annie Lou Dennison and brothers, Jerry Dennison (Katherine) of Jacksonville, Fl and David Dennison of Newbern, TN, and sister Carolyn Gregory (Jimmy) of Oakland, TN.
She leaves her husband, of sixty-four years, Dave Keedy, son Jeffrey Keedy, daughter Carla Sexton (Freddy), grandchildren Joe Keedy (Victoria), Taylor Smith (Ryan), Savannah Keedy, and great-grandson Isaiah Keedy.
In addition she is survived by her two brothers Jimmy Dennison of Forney, Tx; Paul Dennison (Susie) of Burns, TN, six sisters, Faye Seboly of Cordova, Tn, Kay Miller of Newbern, TN, Patsy Whitworth of Little Rock, AR, Wanda Mott(Ronnie)of Kutawa, KY, Polly Dennison (Bobby)and Mary Milam of Bartlett, and her sister-in-law, Teresa Dennison of Newbern, TN.
Funeral services for Mrs. Keedy will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Mr. Patrick Williams. Due to the forecast of inclement weather private family interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation for Mrs. Keedy will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
