Janet King

Janet King, 82, died Friday, December 5, 2025.

Janet Kathleen Mayo was born in January of 1943 to Kenneth and Madalyn Mayo of Wichita.

A few years later, Janet became a big sister to Marlyn. Both girls grew up on the east side of Wichita.

Janet graduated high school from East High School and later attended a year of college at Pittsburg State Univ.

In 1963, Janet married Stephen T. King, also of Wichita. Janet and Stephen had two sons, David and Douglas, both born in Wichita.

The family moved to southeast Colorado in the 1970s where the remained until the mid-1980s. Janet and Stephen divorced, and Janet returned to Wichita.

Janet worked as a florist for many flower shops in Colorado and Kansas throughout her life. She retired from Dillons as a florist in the 2010s.

In addition to creating beautiful floral arrangements Janet enjoyed bowling and bingo. She was a regular at the Wichita Moose Lodge.

Janet is survived by her sister, Marlyn; sons, David King and Douglas King; and granddaughters, Melanie Price and Kalli King.

Janet always was an advocate for animals and children, therefore, in lieu of flowers, Janet's family asks for memorial donations to be made to: American Heart Association, 5800 Foxridge Dr., Mission, KS 66202; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
