Janet Morter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMahon - Coyne - Vitantonio Funeral Home - Mentor on Jan. 8, 2026.
Janet Morter passed away on January 1, 2026, at TriPoint Hospital. She was born on November 8, 1949, in Muskegon, Michigan, and spent the majority of her life in Ohio, a place she proudly called home.

Janet was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ben and Evelyn Morter, who instilled in her many of the values and passions that shaped her life. She will be fondly remembered for her love of playing bridge, a game she absolutely adored and first learned at her parents' side. Her enthusiasm for games of chance extended beyond the card table, as she also loved visiting casinos and frequently traveled to Las Vegas to try her luck - with many believing she was quite successful.

Creative and generous by nature, Janet was a talented knitter and crocheter who shared her gifts freely with others. She lovingly knitted baby blankets that were donated to various hospitals and organizations, bringing comfort to families she never met. She was also known for crocheting Christmas ornaments for family and friends, creating treasured keepsakes that will be cherished for years to come.

Janet is survived by her many cousins and extended family and friends who will miss her deeply.

Friends may call from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 15 at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center Street, Mentor with the funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m. immediately following the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that contributions be made to a charity of your choice in Janet's memory.

I met Janet because she played bridge with my mother. But eventually, I came consider her my friend as well. We enjoyed a lot of nice dinners, a few holidays at my mom´s house, and good conversation. I will miss Janet and keep her in my heart and memories.

I have been blessed by my relationship with Janet Morter these past few years at our beloved bridge table in Willowick Senior Center and other social occasions. She was a master of the game and beloved by all and I so enjoyed her friendship. Rest in peace dear Janet. Sincerely, Polly Shilander
