Janet Negronida Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by National Cremation Service - Niles on Sep. 5, 2023.
Janet Dolan Negronida ""Bunny"", of Evanston, IL passed away June 23, 2023 at the age of 87. Her children are sharing the news that their mom and dad have gone on a long overdue date.

She was born February 24, 1936 in Chicago, IL. She grew up as the youngest of three girls in Norwood Park, born to Amy and Leo Dolan, sister of Patricia and Joyce. There she attended William Howard Taft High School. She went on to study at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, where she met Bob Negronida, also of Chicago. The two married in 1957 and after Bob did a stint in the U.S. Air Force they returned to the Chicago Suburban area where they raised their three children.

Bob took early retirement from Evanston Township High School, when he and Janet moved to Hollandale, WI and in 1989 they opened The Old Granary Inn. They would often host weekends with old friends and colleagues as well as family reunions over the years at their B&B. Many of the guests at The Old Granary Inn went on to become dear friends. Bob unexpectedly passed away in 2007 at the age of 73, and Janet moved back to Evanston to be closer to her children and grandchildren, leaving the beautiful countryside that she treasured.

Janet was a talented artist who painted both oils and watercolors. She was inspired by the beautiful Wisconsin countryside that surrounded her, as well as her grandchildren, and scenes from her travels. Janet volunteered as a reading tutor, hospice volunteer, delivering Meals on Wheels, and in the restoration of Grandview, a Wisconsin Folk Art Site. She was a Master Gardener, an incredible cook, a talented knitter, and even carved Appleheads which were sold in a high end jewelry store as display pieces.

Janet is survived by her children, Jill (Lincoln) Hampton, Tim (Jane) Negronida, and Amy Negronida (Dave Stumpf); grandchildren, Nicholas (Melanie) Bryant, Kiley Bryant, Katie Bryant, Grady Negronida, Reilly Negronida, and Cole Negronida; and great-grandchild, Alana Taylor.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, at The Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Boulevard, Evanston, IL 60201.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to The WasteShed, 1754 N Kimball Avenue, Chicago IL 60647 or at: www.thewasteshed.com/donate or to Meals on Wheels Northeastern Illinois, 1723 Simpson Street, Evanston, IL 60201 at: https://mealsonwheelsnei.org/donate

Oh dear - I missed this very sad news, and I'm so sorry to learn that Janet is no longer with us - but glad that she and Bob are on an eternal date. I met Janet when I volunteered at the House of Welcome as a grad student. To me, she was the sweetest, most patient, lovely person. My family and I had the pleasure of visiting their B&B several times. My love to all in her family - Janet was definitely a treasure of a human being. Julie 12/20/23
