Stephen J. (Steve) Bloom, of Clarendon Hills, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025.
Born on February 27, 1936, to Max and Carolyn Bloom, Steve lived a full and vibrant life filled with love, family, and accomplishment.
In 1957, Steve married the love of his life, Nancy, and together they built a beautiful life and family. They raised four children: Anne Bloom Mitchell (deceased 2014), Bradley (Deanna), Thomas (Marilyn), and Carolyn Bloom. Steve was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren - Ryan Mitchell, Adam Bloom, Sarah Bloom, Emma Bloom Gidley, Sam Bloom, August Bloom, Isabella Bloom, Mallory Hakes, Adeline Hakes, and Hannah Hakes - and a great-grandfather to nine
.
Steve graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1954 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 1958. He began his professional career at the family business, S. Bloom Inc., where he worked for 20 years.
After the company was acquired by Core-Mark Distributors in 1978, Steve continued there as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. In 1979, he joined Northwestern Drug, a leading pharmaceutical distributor, and later concluded his career at Philip Morris USA as Senior Vice President of Trade Development. He retired in 2006 at the age of 70.
Outside of work, Steve enjoyed playing racquetball and tennis. While living in Clarendon Hills since 1970, Steve and Nancy enjoyed many years of golf at Ruth Lake Country Club in Hinsdale and Butler National Golf Club in Oak Brook. In retirement, they made their winter home in Indian Wells, California, where they continued to play golf and spend time with cherished friends.
Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather - and for his infectious laugh and wicked sense of humor. May he rest in peace, forever loved and remembered.
Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Stephen Bloom to Friedman Place, A Community for Adults Who Are Blind: 5527 N Maplewood Ave, Chicago IL 60625 (FriedmanPlace.org)

Dear Nancy, What wonderful memories we have of Ann Arbor and
EX at 548 S. State Street, and Steve's friendship which was a gift to all of us who knew him. He understood so well the nature and meaning of the word "brotherhood." I have never forgotten over the past 70 years, hitch-hiking from Ann Arbor to Madison via Chicago (on my way to visit my girlfriend, now my wife, Louise at the U of W,) and Steve's insisting that I stay overnight each time in his home on Ridge Avenue in Evanston. His parents and his grandmother were so gracious and I was made to feel part of the family each time I arrived at their doorstep. "A man of good character...! as the fraternity's "Norman Shield" put it, and Steve embodied those words. With love and gratitude, Fred and Louise, Sheboygan, WI

Steve was a great friend and fraternity brother. I ushered in his and Nancy wedding.....an honor.
We played golf and lunched but not enough.
I will remember my good friend for ever.
Thank God , I called him just 2 weeks ago. We had a really nice conversation !
