Cecelia Mary Donegan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep early on October 4, 2025. She had been in hospice, at her daughter Patricia Pohl's home, during the month prior to her passing.
Cecelia Mary Budek was born December 10, 1932 in Center Township near Petosky, MI, to John H. and Julia (Bodzick) Budek. In her teens, Cecelia moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan. There she worked at Argus Camera and also worked as a flight attendant. Through a friend, she met her future husband while he was finishing his Juris Doctor Degree at the University of Michigan. She married her husband of 66 years, James William Donegan, on January 30th, 1957.
Cecelia was an active member of the community, volunteering with Ann Arbor Hospice for 18 years.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Parish in Saline, Michigan, and leaves behind many friends there.
Cecelia was an avid gardener, and enjoyed working in her garden and growing vegetables, flowers, apples and pears for many years.
In 2019 her husband suffered a debilitating stroke. Cecelia tirelessly cared for him with the help of her son, daughters, and friend Jeff Strang. James passed away 4 years later in 2023.
Cecelia was able to live in her own home primarily with the help of her son Stephen, until the last month of her life. Her
wonderful neighbors also helped her greatly and she wished to extend them many thanks before she died.
During her final years, Cecelia's vision declined due to macular degeneration. But she began listening to Family Life
Radio, 93.1 FM, which brought her much joy, comfort, and a new and living faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Surviving Cecelia are her daughters Patricia (Gerald) Pohl and Sharon (John) Scott and her son Stephen (Kathy) Donegan. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Tyler Pohl, Alaina (Curtis) Wells, and great granddaughter Chandler Rose Wells, who brought much joy to her in her final years. Cecelia also has many nieces and nephews who have fond memories of her. She was loved by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband James William Donegan and her youngest son, Timothy James Donegan in 2021. Cecelia was also preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings:
