Lisa Jean Gates, a cherished educator, devoted wife, and beacon of inspiration, passed away on August 11, 2025, at the age of 46. Born on May 2, 1979, Lisa's exuberant spirit and strong faith in God left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Lisa's academic journey was distinguished by her achievement of a Master's in Education from Western Michigan University. Her passion for teaching was evident in her over 25 years of dedicated service to the field of education. Lisa's tenure at GAP, Inc. spanned three decades, and her commitment to the company was paralleled only by her devotion to her students. She spent 18 years shaping young minds at Edwardsburg Elementary and three years at Delton Kellogg, in addition to teaching summer school. Lisa's natural talent as an educator was unmistakable; her students adored her, and she was regarded as a master in the classroom.
A devout Christian, Lisa's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. Over the last year of her life, her faith underwent a profound transformation that became a source of inspiration to everyone around her. Lisa's enthusiasm for life was contagious, and she had a unique ability to make others aspire to be their best selves. Her mother affectionately called her "her energizer bunny" because of her relentless energy and discipline. Lisa's strength and determination were admirable, and her selflessness was evident in the way she prioritized the well-being of others above her own.
Lisa's zest for life was matched by her love for the outdoors. Whether it was hiking, snowboarding, or kayaking, she embraced the beauty of nature with open arms. As a teenager she also found joy in showing animals and had a playful side that led her to rescue cats and lovingly hide them in her bedroom. A true fashion enthusiast, Lisa never wore the same outfit twice during the school year, boasting closets brimming with clothes. Her favorite place to escape was Mackinac Island, where she found peace and solace.
Lisa's journey through life was one of constant growth and curiosity. An avid reader and listener of books, she was always seeking knowledge, whether it was for personal enlightenment or in researching her cancer and holistic treatments. Her proactive approach to her health reflected her deep care for others, as she was determined to heal herself so she could continue making a difference in the lives of those around her.
Together with her beloved husband, Chris, Lisa sought to build a wonderful life, filled with cherished memories. Her legacy is one of love, learning, and an unwavering commitment to faith and family.
Lisa is survived by her dear husband; parents: Dennis and Susan (De Maagd) Postema; sisters: Sara (Denny) Patterson, Leandra (Zachary) Reurink; nieces and nephews: Trinity Patterson, Sadie Patterson, Brittanie Price, Mitchell Price; sister-in-law, Season (Stephen) Miley; father-in-law Scott Gates.
