Janet Schultz, 87, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away peacefully at Anderson Hospital on July 4, 2025. She was born on June 5, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, where she was also raised and formed a lifelong connection to the city she always called "home." She was a graduate of Bishop DuBourg High School of which she held great pride.
Janet was a gentle soul, with a kind word for everyone. She had a deep love of reading, and an incredible passion for genealogy–uncovering remarkable stories and connections in her family's past. One of her favorite sayings was, "don't think one hundred years from now people won't know what you did!" A reflection of her appreciation for history, legacy and remembrance.
Janet's desire to learn never faded, and she was an inquisitive, engaged woman who believed strongly in civic involvement. She was also deeply involved in politics, and was never afraid to stand up for what she believed in. Although she was known as a private person, her family was both surprised and delighted to find a photo of her on the internet one day, proudly holding a protest sign, proof of her quiet strength and passion. A committed Republican, she encouraged others to stay informed and take part in their local government.
Above all, Janet cherished time with her family, and was a devoted wife, mother, and matriarch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Ferder; brothers James and John Ferder; beloved son, Tom Schultz; and her dear aunt Helen Stacy.
Janet is survived by her husband, Henry Schultz; her children, Gary Schultz and Christine Brennan; her brother, Edward Ferder; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, who will carry on her legacy; and countless others whose lives were touched by her kindness, wisdom, and strength.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 207 Vandalia St., Collinsville, Illinois, followed by mass of Christian burial. Honoring her wishes and lifelong connection to her birthplace, Janet will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
Janet left the world a better place than she found it. Her love, spirit, and guidance will be forever missed and remembered by all who knew her.
