Janet Ruby Shuey

Virginia Beach, Virginia - Janet R. Shuey, 93, formerly of Bellefonte, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at her residence at Bay Lake Retirement and Assisted Living in Virginia Beach, VA. She was born on March 3, 1932, in Roaring Springs, PA to the late Albert N. and Clara Margaret (Hengst) Close.
She was married on July 24, 1964, to her beloved husband, Mark E. Shuey, who preceded her in death on December 21, 2024, after sharing 60 years of marriage.
Janet was a 1949 graduate of Derry Township School. She worked for over 30 years at Penn State University as secretary in the Office of the President and in the College of Human Development until retiring in 1995. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Bellefonte.
Janet's devotion to her husband Mark, her family and friends, her faith, as well as life itself, was nothing short of inspirational. In her spare time, she loved being outside, and she loved doing everything. Whether it was on the boat, in the garden, or on the porch with a good book, Janet made the most of every day.
Janet embodied grace, strength, and beauty no matter what she was doing. You could find Janet waterskiing at age 80 or baking peanut blossom cookies by the dozen at Christmas; she did it all with grace. She selflessly took care of the people around her, and despite never sitting still, she never broke a sweat.
Janet's love for life will be survived by her nieces, Sheryl L. Lambert, Barbara A. Nynas, Linda K. Parker, Carol A. Connelly, MaryAnn Reddecliff Cohen (Larry) and nephew, John Reddecliff (Susan) and their son Jack.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn D. Middleswarth (Richard) and their son Rick, and brother, Jack L. Close (Mary).
Funeral services were conducted in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. The interment will be privately held at Centre County Memorial Park in State College.
