SR. JANET VENO
"SR. MARY ELAINE, SMSM"
Of Waltham, peacefully entered eternal life in the loving arms of her God on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 in Newton - Wellesley Hospital at the age of 86.
Born on January 29, 1938 in Woburn; beloved daughter of the late Arthur Anthony Veno and Aline Marie (Powers) Veno. Sister Janet was one of a family of four children. She had two brothers, the late Arthur Veno Jr. and David Veno, and her sister the late Mary Varney.
Before entering with the Marist Missionary Sisters on September 8, 1960; Sr. Janet trained as a Dietician graduating from Regis College in Weston.
After her profession in Bedford, Massachusetts, Sr. Janet was missioned to Peru on March 27, 1964, where she taught until 1988.
Deterioration of her eyesight caused her to return to Massachusetts. Sister worked on computers in Lexington and Belmont and soon took up working in Hispanic Ministry in Lawrence, Massachusetts until August of 2001.
Sister then moved to our 62 Newton Street in the Waltham community where she assisted in the Skills for Life Program from 2005 until 2011.
In 2015, Sister asked to move to Marillac Assisted Living in Wellesley. She continued to be interested and active in many of the programs there and engaged with the other residents as well as her many visitors.
Sister is survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family as well as her loving & devoted Community of Marist Missionary Sisters.
Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of the Resurrection in celebration of Sister Mary Elaine's Life at the Marist Missionary Sisters Residence, 62 Newton St, Waltham on FRIDAY morning August 23rd at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Marist Missionary Sisters Lot at Saint Patrick's Cemetery in Watertown. Visiting Hours will be held prior to the Funeral Mass in the Marist Missionary Sisters Residence from 9:00 am -10:30 am.
