Dr. Janet Wagner, age 89, of Orland Park, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Integrity Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Marion, IL.
She was born on October 12, 1934, in Harvey, IL, a daughter to Forrest William and Viola Marion (Davis) Myers.
She was united in marriage to Stephen S. Wagner in Cook County, IL, on August 19, 1953, and together they shared nearly thirty-seven years of marriage until he preceded her in death on August 3, 1990.
Upon graduating from high school, Janet furthered her education by earning her Bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee, and a Master's and Ph.D. from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Wagner's academic career spanned many years as a French professor. She served as Assistant to the Resident Director of the Junior Year Abroad Program in Paris, France through Sweet Briar College, from 1974 until 1978. Most of her teaching years, however, were with Radford University, Radford, VA, where she retired.
Dr. Wagner enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends, attending the opera and Shakespeare theater productions, and traveling. She was of the Christian faith.
She is survived by a great-niece, Sheri Lawler (Mike); great-grand nephews, Michael, Thomas, Lucas Lawler; and great-nieces and nephews, Zack Boswell, Berlyn Boswell, Ian Boswell, Beau Boswell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stephen Wagner; her sister, Jacqueline Boswell; niece, Jill Prusak; and nephew, Charles Boswell, Jr.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.
In accordance with Dr. Wagner's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
