Rev. Ezra Leo Reams, age 65, of Cambria, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 14, 2025. Ezra passed away at Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
He was born Monday, August 10, 1959 in Kankakee, Illinois, a son of David Alonzo and Evelyn Jean (Hoyle) Reams. He married the love of his life, Laura Jean Schoolcraft, on May 23, 1987 at the Murdale Baptist Church of Carbondale.
Ezra loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a devoted servant of the Lord who left a lasting impact on his community through his tireless efforts in ministry and service. As a passionate advocate for the pro-life movement, he stood firm in his convictions, inspiring others with his unwavering commitment to his faith. As a nursing home minister in Carbondale, Ezra brought comfort, hope, and joy to countless residents. His calling to preach at Shiloh Baptist Church in Cobden for four years allowed him to share his love for the Lord with a wider community. Ezra's enthusiasm for life extended beyond the pulpit. He coached Upward Basketball at Murdale, mentoring young athletes in the ways of teamwork and sportsmanship. He was involved in Upward for two seasons until his health would not allow him to continue. His green thumb and love for plants led him to work at Williams Green House for many years, where he nurtured life and beauty. A talented photographer, Ezra captured life's precious moments through his lens. His artistic eye and passion for photography allowed him to see the world from a unique perspective, preserving memories for loved ones. Ezra's legacy is one of love, service, and devotion. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his impact will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.
Ezra leaves behind his wife of thirty-eight years- Laura Jean Reams of Cambria; brother- Lonny (Susan) Reams of Pittsburg; sister- Deanna Thompson of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers- Edward Reams of Marion, Anthony Reams of Sesser, and John Reams of Marion.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation on Monday, July 21, 2025 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the Murdale Baptist Church, located at 2701 West Main Street in Carbondale.
