Janet was born the ninth child of fourteen to Joseph and Ann (Hopp) Lorentz on July 18, 1930, in Wadena, MN. After completing high school, she began her secondary education by attending teacher's training, and eventually attained her master's degree in Bemidji. Janet embarked on her teaching career by teaching in a country school, went on to teach at Sebeka Public School and spent the remainder of her 30 years of teaching at Wadena Public School. She was a gifted reading teacher. Hours away from work, she planted a large garden and enjoyed canning the produce. She sewed clothes for her children and quilt tops.. She was present in the community where she played on a softball team, was an active 4-H mom and member of a homemaker's club, and Ronald's favorite dance partner for many years. Hours at the lake cabin included fishing, playing cards, and fun with her family.
With family at her side, Janet quietly passed away at the age of 94, on September 12, 2024, with gentle care at the Knute Nelson Hospice in Alexandria, MN.
Preceding Janet in death were her parents, Joseph and Ann; an infant son, four pre-term babies; and 13 siblings.
Remembering Janet will be her husband of 74 years, Ronald of Bluffton; children: Cindi Koll (Brad), Blaine (Chris), Jana Timm (Tom), Kari Bach (Perry), Heidi Rentz (Bob), Melanie Bemis (Duane), Nolan, Kent (Heidi) and Jennifer (Phil) Johnsrud. 29 grandchildren, 49 and counting great-grandchildren.
