Janice "Jan" Gross, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Isabella Medical Care Facility with her family by her side. Janice was born January 16, 1943, in
Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, daughter of the late Bernard "Bud" and Marie (MacDonald) Gruss. After graduating from Beal City High School, Janice went on to Chic University of Cosmetology in Grand Rapids and came home on weekends to work at the Ember's where she became Clarence's biggest fan of his famous one-pound pork chop and peas and peanuts. These two dishes graced her table throughout the years on many special holidays and celebrations for all to be enjoyed. After graduating from cosmetology school, she married the love of her life, Allen Gross, on March 23, 1963. They were happily married for 46 years, and she made it to heaven just in time to celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary. Janice worked alongside her dear friend, Nadine, at Nadine's Beauty Salon for 46 years. Throughout those years, she was blessed to work with some of the best stylists and wonderful clients who became her lifelong friends. Janice was a woman of integrity and never had an unkind word or thought towards anyone. She was a beautiful soul, the most selfless person, and will be dearly missed. Family was the most important part of her life and nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her late husband Al, daughter Amy, son in-law Dave and her beloved grandchildren, Alex and Taylor. Whether it be boating, having bonfires, attending school/sporting events, or graduations, Grandma Jan was there for it all, making these moments memorable. She was their greatest cheerleader. Janice found peace in the outdoors while working in her yard and tending to her flower beds. She loved to read, travel with Al, and spend time with her sisters. She was devout in her faith serving as a eucharistic minister for several years at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Beal City. She leaves behind her daughter, Amy (David) Bourns of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Alexander Bourns of Portland, OR, and Taylor Bourns of
Denver, CO; sisters Rhonda (Carl) Spayd and Chari Benzinger, both of Mt. Pleasant; in-laws, Marilyn Losey, Joanne Cochran, and Charlene Gross all of Lake Isabella, Donna Gross of Shepherd; Sandy (John) Straznac of Grand Haven and numerous nieces and nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Marie Gruss; and husband, Allen Gross. Special thanks to the beautiful people at the Medical Care Facility who took such great care of her and showed such compassion during a very difficult time. Our family is beyond thankful to our family and friends who gave her so much love and joy, stopped to visit, and showered her with prayers, food, and kindness while she was homebound these last few years. Last, but not least, her dear neighbors (our adopted family) who watched out for her and helped to make her life more wonderful, we are eternally grateful. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass for Janice will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4, at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Father Tom Held will preside. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. with the Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues in the gathering room of the church one hour prior to Mass. Following Mass, Rite of Committal will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, concluding with a luncheon at Deerfield Township Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Church where she was a lifelong member. To sign the online guestbook or leave a condolence for the family visit www.CharlesRLux.com.
