Janice Hensley

Janice Gage Hensley, age 78, of Mine Creek Road in Bakersville, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025 at the Care Partners Solace Center in Asheville.
Born on February 27, 1947 in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Jane Saylor Gage. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers; Jimmy Dean Gage and Phillip Gage.
Janice was a member of Mine Creek Baptist Church. She had served as the church secretary and church clerk. She had also served as the pianist, sang in the choir, was a member of the W.M.U. and was a deacon's wife. She loved the youth of her church and had taught Bible School and Bible Drill.
She retired from the Mitchell County School System where she served as Assistant Cafeteria Manager. She was a member of the Bakersville Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was known as a 'social butterfly' and enjoyed her family and friends. She also enjoyed attending events at the Mitchell County Senior Center and camping trips.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of sixty-one years; Clarence Fleet Hensley of the home, her daughter; Tammy Bridges and husband, Jimmy of Shelby, her son; Tommy Hensley and wife, Angela of Lexington, SC, her grandson; Matthew Gage Hensley, and her nephew; Phil Byrd and wife, Lisa.
The funeral service for Janice Henley will be on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Mine Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. John Luke Rathbone officiating. Interment will be in the Mine Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Mine Creek Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
