Janice Rose Langston Jackson went home to be with her Lord following a brief illness at her home in Norwood, North Carolina on January 14, 2026 at the age of 72. Jan was born in Jackson, Mississippi to Robert B. Jr. and Annie Jane Biggs Langston on June 20, 1953.

As the second of five children growing up on a farm in Raymond, Mississippi, Jan learned a lot of life skills on the farm and helping her mother with her younger siblings. Jan cherished the friendships she made in high school, college and her work retaining those relationships throughout her life. Jan made many lasting friendships during her professional career as a NICU nurse. She loved taking care of those special babies and ministering to their families.

As much as Jan loved her friends, she loved her family more. She loved being a wife to Joe Jackson until his death on October 24, 2004 then several years later to Ross Newland, Jr. until his death on January 26, 2022. She loved being a mom to Jeff and Jayne, and a "Ginky" to Jackson, Josiah, Christopher and Tyler. Later she came to love her bonus grands Trevor and Julieanne. Jan lived for the moments when she could watch the grands play sports or just hang out with them at home.

Jan was a member of Indian Trails Baptist Church in Mathews, North Carolina where she served in a variety of roles from working with the youth group to participating in or leading Bible studies. She especially loved her small group Bible studies where she was able to deepen her understanding of scripture.

Jan is survived by her son, Jeffrey Robert Jackson (Amy) and daughter, Jayne Jackson Crump (Matt), grandsons Jackson, Josiah, Christopher, Tyler, Trevor and granddaughter, Julianne. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Langston Young, sisters-in-law, Louanne Langston and Tammie Langston and brother-in-law Rick McKissack. Also, a host of nephews and nieces who adored her. She also leaves behind her beloved fur baby, Rosie.

She was preceded in death by both her mother and father, Robert and Annie Jane Langston, brothers, Robert B., III(Bobby) and Vernon B. Langston and sister, Nita Langston McKissack.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, 732 Indian Trail Fairview Road, Indian Trail, NC 28079 on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. A celebration of Jan's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail with interment immediately following at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
