Janice Faye Monson, age 86 of Manning, Iowa passed away peacefully at Accura HealthCare of Carroll on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Born February 20, 1938 in Carroll, Iowa, she was the daughter of Reynold and Henrietta (Stoffers) Hagge. She married Duane Monson on June 2, 1957 and together they had two sons: Brett and Bruce.
Growing up Janice loved spending time in the kitchen, helping her mom feed the hired hands on the farmstead creating delicious meals for her family. In high school, she excelled as a pitcher in softball as well as playing Varsity 6-on-6 basketball beginning in 8th grade. Following graduation, she attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha for one year, then returned to Manning to marry Duane. Janice’s first employment was for the attorney Irwin Hansen. She became a homemaker when the kids were born and then worked with Duane at the Manning Insurance Agency for 30 years. Janice was an avid Bridge, Euchre and Rummy player, enjoyed golf and completed a RAGBRAI trek one year. Duane and Janice attended many Iowa State football and basketball games and became their children’s and grandchildren’s most supportive fans. Duane and Janice were long-time members of Zion Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the women’s guild for many years. She also volunteered as a greeter at the Manning Hausbarn Heritage Park.
Janice was preceeded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Hagge.
Surviving relatives include her devoted and loving husband of 67 years, Duane Monson of Manning; sons: Brett (Sherri) Monson of Omaha, NE and Bruce (Pat) Monson of Bloomington, IN; grandchildren: Ben (Shawna) Monson, Amy (Matt) McLaughlin, Sam Monson and Jordan Monson; five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm on Wednesday October 2, 2024 at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. Funeral Service will be at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow in the Manning Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Main Street Manning.
