Obituary published on Legacy.com by Midwest Cremation & Funeral Services, LLC - Springfield on Nov. 24, 2022.
Janice Louise Queen-Simons passed away November 22nd, at her home at the age of 76. She was born on February 21st, 1946, the second of four children. Her mom was Aileen Ellingsworth, and her dad was Clarence "Rusty" Queen. Her siblings were Shirley Clark, deceased, Debbie and her husband Mark Bentley of Lake of the Ozarks, and John Queen, of Springfield. Janice graduated from Parkview High School. She worked from the tender age of 10 at the schools for her lunch.
Her first marriage was to Jim Frazier here in Springfield. They moved to Texas where after a time they were amicably divorced. Her second husband was Buck Buckner. They lived in Round Rock, Texas, where Jan balanced her life with work and two step sons, Nathan of Round Rock, Texas and Matthew of Florida. She met Kenn Simons at The Church of Today, Austin Texas, the love of her life. Kenn was a programming engineer.
Her family was enlarged with Kenn's Children Amanda Lois Simons-Herring, her husband T. and grandson T.W., and a son, Kenneth Eugene Simons Junior of Springfield and grandson Malachai Sarak Simons of Texas. She is survived by other relatives, loads of nieces and nephews, Johnna and her husband Steve, their daughter Danika, Jake, Jamie and Josh who always referred to himself as her favorite one, and Mihran and Mereck.
Before retirement, Jan and Kenn moved to Springfield in 1992. Later they did duel living outside of Georgetown, Texas in the small town of Weir, Texas and their home in Ozark. Jan worked in retail, insurance, secret shopping and in later years she and Kenn would go to auctions. She would resell in a booth at the flea market also she sold on e-bay.
Of course, Jan had her cat family. Rambler, Baby Doll, Angel as an in-and-outdoor cat, Panther and Grayscale,
community cats. She was known as the "Cat Whisperer". She loved them like children and in our conversations would
always tell me about their latest antics.
Paul and Kay Brock, precious friends that she and Kenn met at the Unity Church Of Springfield, have helped Kenn and Jan so much during the years they have known them. They are beautiful Christian people. Yes, there are still wonderful people in this world.
Jan would help anyone in need. During the COVID crisis she and Kenn took boxes of food to people in need. Ever few
weeks she and Kenn would leave food at a Unity Church.
Now for me to talk about my relationship with my sister, not from being related but, from a relationship God gave us. She was my rock. I met her and I didn't like her, but that was short lived. I was sixteen and my brother was dating her and I think things were pretty serious before my brother went in the Navy. She would pick me up in her Studebaker, with my friend Sonja. We loved that car, which she bought with her own money. At that time, the Springfield square was the old fashioned square with Woolworth, Heers and all other old stores around the square. We would "buzz" the square and call out to the boys, and giggle and carry on. Then we would cruise Steak and Shake, on Glenstone, next A &W, then out to Kearny to go around McDonald's. We knew all of each others secrets, She helped me so much when I was taking care of my Mom. We have talked everyday for years. Before COVID we would go to lunch at least once a week. We would go shopping, even sometimes grocery shopping together and to flea markets. I will be lost for always because I can't hear her voice and about her cats, how Kenn is, just everything we talked about. I will see her in heaven. She has a special room in my heart. See you in heaven my precious soulmate friend and sister.
Love from all of us.
Janice Kay
