Janice Spain Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home on Mar. 4, 2026.
Janice Alane Spain, 77, of Zeigler, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Franklin County Hospital in Benton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Church of the Nazarene in Royalton, 412 W. Third Street, with Pastor Robert Flowers officiating. Burial will be in Zeigler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the church.

Janice was born on February 11, 1949, in Christopher, to Lois Sammie (Hale) Boner and Loren Rae Boner. She grew up in Zeigler mostly, later moving to DuQuoin to be with family. She married Paul Eugene Spain, and he preceded her in death on November 14, 2009.

She is survived by her son, Paul Bryan Spain; daughter, Lesa Lefler and son-in-law, Doug Lefler; a granddaughter, Sami Chiaventone; and great-grandboys, Gavin Wilson, Ollie Lefler, Sailor Chiaventone, and Owen Harper.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Chandra Kay Utley; grandson, Joshua Lefler; brother, Loren Rae Boner; and sister, Debbie Feezor.

She was a devoted homemaker who found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially playing BINGO on Thursday nights at the Zeigler Eagles. Janice never passed up a good plate of fried chicken and treasured any opportunity to gather around the table with those she loved.

Above all, Janice loved her family deeply and had a natural gift for caring for others. Her quiet strength and servant's heart were evident to all who knew her. A devoted Christian, Janice truly believed there was good in everyone and lived her life reflecting that belief each day.

Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville is in charge of the arrangements.
