Janice Ruth Thurman, 80, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on October 18, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, Janice was the cherished daughter of Howard and Louella Boss. She lived a life marked by warmth, kindness, and quiet joy, always finding beauty in the simple moments that meant the most.
Janice had a deep love for her family, which shone through in everything she did. She especially enjoyed cooking and took pride in preparing meals that brought everyone together. Her home was always filled with the comforting smells of a warm kitchen and the sound of her beautiful singing voice—especially when she sang to her children.
In her later years, Janice found joy in the peaceful routines of life with her beloved husband, Don. Whether they were curled up on the couch watching home renovation shows or spending a day fishing at their favorite spot—where Janice often out-fished the boys—she was most content when they were together. She had a great eye for interior decorating and a calm presence that made any space feel like home.
To know Janice was to know a gentle soul who valued togetherness above all. She will be remembered for her selflessness, her laughter, and the quiet strength she carried throughout her life.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, shared meals, quiet songs, and unforgettable memories. She will be deeply missed, but her love will continue to echo in the simple moments she treasured most.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Howard Boss and Louella Micthell Boss; brother, Don Boss; father and mother-in-law; William and Ruby Thurman; and stepdaughter, Carri Thurman.
Left to cherish her memory, Janice is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Don Thurman; 4 children, Freddy Helm, Tim Helm (Kim), Scott Thurman (Brenda), and Michael Helm; 9 grandchildren, Ashley, Devon, Garrett, Chloe, Tyler, Arielle, Abby, Scotty, and Mckinlee; 8 great grandchildren, Erin, Colbie, Joseph, Gracie, Amelia, Emeryk, Bexley, and Ellington; 3 siblings, Betty Lewellen, Bill Boss (Kay), and Lanny Boss; furry companion, Buffy; and a host of extended family and close friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Louisville Memorial gardens west, 4400 dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on August 15, 2025, at the funeral home with visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow the funeral service.
