Jared Gene Oakley, age 23 passed away June 1, 2024, at his home in Arkansas City, Kansas.
Jared was born December 18, 2000, to Darren and Sheila (Vessels) Oakley in Arkansas City,
Kansas.
Jared attended Arkansas City High School where he graduated in 2019. He continued his
education first at Barton Community College; later at Kansas State University; and finally at
Wichita State University. During his educational endeavors, he was an exemplary student. He
majored in Biology and was in the Medical Laboratory Science Program while at Wichita State
University. He was a member of the K-State Color Guard and Marching Band during his time at
Kansas State University. He was also a member of the Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity. He worked
as a pharmacy technician in Wichita, Kansas.
Jared enjoyed spending time and traveling with his friends and family. In addition, he was a
wonderful uncle.
Jared is survived by his parents; sister Courtney Sobba and husband Andrew and children Kail,
Aria, Aaron and Avery of Eudora, Kansas; brother Devon Oakley and wife Taryn and son Nolan
of Arkansas City, Kansas; brother Kaleb Oakley of Arkansas City, Kansas; Aunt Darci Jones and
cousins TC and Will Jones of Niota, Tennessee; Uncle Shawn Vessels of Sand Springs,
Oklahoma; grandfather Jack Vessels of Ponca City, Oklahoma as well as a multitude of beloved
friends.
Arrangements will be handled by Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be
held Friday June 7, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Saturday June 8, 2024 from 2:00 pm
until 4:00 pm. Cremation will be effected and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers the family has established the Jared Oakley memorial fund to defray funeral cost.
