Jason (Grits) Alan Engle, 56, of New Bloomfield, MO, passed away on Sunday, April 13th, 2025 at University Hospital in Columbia surrounded by loved ones.
Jason was born on January 22, 1969 the son of Jack and Darlene (Atkins) Engle. He loved to make people smile and never knew a stranger. He loved exotic animals and traveling all over to transport them. Grits loved to spend time outdoors; working, hunting, and fishing. He always talked about the amazing times he had at Lolli's Livestock Market and the people he met along the way. He loved his daughter, family and friends. He was always looking out for his loved ones and lending a helping hand to others.
Jason is survived by his daughter, Teagan Engle of Macon, MO, former spouse and lifelong friend, Leigh Ann Grant of Macon, MO, other extended family, friends and the Exotic Animal Community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Nathan Engle; grandparents, Harry and Cora (Binder) Atkins; uncle, Wesley Atkins; and cousin, Christine Atkins Coffman. Family suggests memorials be made to New Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
My dad would want us to celebrate his life with happiness and joy, remembering the incredible journey he lived. He is at peace now, free from pain, and for that, we are grateful. No matter the hardships he faced, he always found the good in every situation and made it his mission to bring a smile to others. His laughter was infectious, and he never missed a chance to share a joke or lift someone's spirits. Above all, I hope everyone remembers my dad for the truly remarkable man he was: caring, loving, hardworking, and always willing to help those around him. His legacy of kindness and strength will live on in all of us.
Memorial service will be 10:00 am, Friday, April 18, 2025 at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, MO. Visitation will be Thursday evening, April 17, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the New Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
