Jason Merboth, 39, of Creston, Iowa died Friday, January 5, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.  Memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Creston.  The family requests casual attire with Hawaiian shirts, if possible.  Jason’s cremated remains will be buried in the Graceland Cemetery following the service.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the Jason Merboth Memorial Fund, to be determined by the family.  Memories and condolences can be shared online at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.

 

Jason Michael Merboth was born in Creston, Iowa on January 6, 1984, the son of Michael Clarke and Christi Kay (Hamilton) Merboth.  Jason was raised and educated in Creston and graduated with the Class of 2002 from Creston High School.  Following graduation, Jason enrolled at Southwestern Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Structural Steel Drafting and attended Iowa State University for a semester. 

 

During high school, Jason worked at Fareway and during college, he worked for Dean Leith, as a Log Peeler, at New Homestead Log Homes.  After attending ISU for a semester, Jason moved to Greeley, Colorado in 2005 where he became a Certified Motorcycle Mechanic while working for Harley-Davidson.  He worked for 5 years, returning to Creston in 2010 and began his employment as an Engineer with Wellman Dynamics.  Jason would also work for R.E. Lewis Refrigeration of Creston and for Chicago Magnesium in Chicago, Illinois.  Jason never married and lived his life to the fullest each and every day. 

 

Jason is survived by his mother, Christi Byerly of Creston; his father, Michael (Janie) Merboth of Orient, Iowa; brother, Josh Merboth (Fiance’ Jessica Lundt) of Decorah, Iowa; 2 sisters:  Melissa Kauzlarich of Indianola, Iowa; niece and nephews:  Kristina, Devon and Seth; Mindy Watrous of Des Moines, Iowa and 2 more nephews:  Tristan and Logan.  He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Warren and Marlene Merboth of Creston; 2 aunts:  Lori (John) Hays of Creston and Cathy Woods of Osage Beach, Missouri; 2 uncles:  Steve Hamilton of McGregor, Iowa and Buckie Stanley; his cousins:  Cain and Cole Lacina; Miranda and Samantha Hays; Dustin and Kassie Hamilton and 2nd cousins:  Alissa and Serenity Hays. 

 

Jason was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jim and Rose Hamilton; great-grandparents; and aunt, Joni Stanley.
