Jason Parsons Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 9, 2009.
Let me tell you a little bit about my son, Sgt. Jason R. Parsons Jason started out life in 1984, in such a hurry that he was born in 33 minutes and on October 31st at that.  He lived his young life full-throttle all the time.  He was  always such a happy child and young adult.  Always smiling and always trying to  to be the best at everything.   He had a smile that could warm the heart of anyone. He would rescue his friends whenever they needed him to - no matter what time  it was and was always a dare-devil. He served in the boy scout; a young church leader as a pathfinder, where he was always willing to stand up and preach a sermon at a moments notice, Jason was so excited when he got to high school, so that he could join the ROTC program.  Well South didn't have one, so I transported him back  and forth from South to West Caldwell so that he could be in the ROTC. He was determined to serve in the Army even as a young child.   Always playing with guns and swords and dressing the part of a soldier. He wanted in the military so much that when he finished the 11th grade he went on to boot camp during the summer and then came back  to high school to graduate.  After graduation he took off for Germany. Where he served 6 years and 2 tours before his death on Jan. 09, 2009 Where he was killed by a road side bomb. Killing him along with 4 of his buddies. 1 month and 2 weeks before he was coming home to North Carolina. As a mom, I had to ask his leaders, why did they send him back out, their reply to me at his funeral was that Jason heard that some of his troop's  men had been killed and they needed volunteers to replace them,  he stepped forward to volunteer, fearless of what could happen to him.  He loved doing his job, & driving the big trucks was what he lived for.  Being first in line for the convey was what he choose.   Jason attended Hudson Elem., Hudson Middle, and South Caldwell High School.  He was actively involved in all the sports he could handle growing up, being a lefty made the challenge harder, but he loved playing baseball, football, and basketball.  He loved old cars and cars that were pimped out.  The louder the better for him.  His favorite was a wing tipped yellow Cadillac, that he drove proudly, hauling his buddies around in. Jason was one of  the sweetest young man one could meet.  He was always hugging and telling me how much he loved his mom.   I hope this lets you to know a little bit about my son.  In his home town of Hudson, North Carolina, he was know as a kid with a little mischief in his eyes and a big heart.  Now he is know as a Hometown HERO. To me he was and will always be my little boy.

Another year gone. I woke up this morning with you on the brain. There have been a lot of changes since I last wrote. Mostly good changes. I finally got promoted to Patrol Lieutenant with my department. It's a great career and I love it here. I have a lot of great fellas and ladies that have my back just like you. My family is doing great. My wife and daughter both love hearing all the Jason stories that I so frequently share. They always sit with me in disbelief when hearing about our shenanigans with Bryan and Jacob. They feel like they know you well, the same as me. I miss my you, buddy. I still grieve everyday. It's hard to believe that 16 years since you were taken from us. I still feel sadness and anger every day. You are and always will be my best friend and my brother. I love you, man.

Not sure when or if you´ll ever see this but, I served with your boy. I was in Bravo Company and he was in HHC I believe at the time we first met. Everything you said about him is spot on accurate. Germany was both of our first duty station. I kiss him, he really was damn good dude. I got a pic with him at the Regensberg Fest 2004. Hope you´re doing as best you can after all these years. When I come across it, I will post it here

Wow, 13 years! I miss you like crazy! It's amazing how it all still seems like yesterday. I wish my family had the chance to know you like I do. I'm a daddy now and she's perfect. She's so loving and full of life. When telling my wife stories about you, I often catch myself comparing her to you. You would have loved and she would you. There's so many things that have changed, but I want you to know that you are always here through it all. You're my best friend and my brother and I miss you like crazy every day. I love and remember you always.

Another year has passed and I continue to miss you more. Little man is about to turn 5 and all I can think about is you as we are doing anything. He is strong and smarter than I've ever wished to be. When we see a soldier he asks if they knew you. Can't wait to see you again. Love you brother.

Sitting here at the hospital with my wife and soon to be born son thinking of how excited and happy you would be for me. You are truly my hero and that is why we are naming him after you. Jason Graham Minton will know how great of a man you were and one day you will meet him in heaven. I love you brother and can't wait to see you again. I just wish I could've told you the impact you made on me and my life.

I happened upon Jason's memorial site while contemplating the creation of one for my son who would have been five years old in October. I just wanted to tell those who had the privledge of knowing Jason that my thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless him for keeping this country safe and free. Such a powerful life in such few years. Some live 80 years before fulfilling their purpose on this earth, and it would seem that his God-given purpose was filled way before the rest of us have even begun to recognize our own. My son was way ahead of me in that, as well. Much love to all of you and gratitude for the sacrifice of a wonderful young man and his service to his country. God bless you.

As I think of Jason today I remember many things that bring a smile to my face.When he was small his laugh and the big smile he had all the time.As he got bigger it was the trips to the Cades Cove and how he was wanting to get out and chase the deer and take hikes and eat whatever we all had packed for lunch that day .Always had that smile on his face . we would go shopping in Cherokee and he would look at the big knifes and hats .He would put them on and ask "what do you think" Then the trips to Florida ,going to the parks .again he was so happy to be going.Then he grew up and He was getting ready to be a soldier , He joined the Army and got married had a family and was very happy.We Honor Jason today .Thank you for letting us share a small part of your lfe .

I am so glad Jason is a part of our family. I am very proud of him and always will be. He was so full of life during his time with us. Sorry for mentioning to your mom and dad, Jason, that I saw you on the road that day. I didn't know you were grounded :) I couldn't have asked for a better, braver nephew. Jason touched a lot of lives and will always be remembered. Everytime I think of him I can see his smile. I am glad I had the opportunity to visit with Jason and his family at Redwood park that blessed day. Jasons' strength, courage and bravery will never be forgotten.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Sgt Jason Parsons our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jason. And to Jason it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing terrorist forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jason, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jason’s family and loved ones.

In his eyes you were the best. Chris and Brittany always remember he truly loved you both. He spoke alot of you both. Thanks for such sharing him with us all. Love him always not as just a friend but as brother. You're in our thoughts and prayers always. SO MUCH TO BE PROUD OF. He'll never be forgotten.

My prayer is that God brings you all the Grace and Comfort as you are going through the motions and "emotions" that are ahead of you all.
I do know that Gods Grace is Sufficient, as he has proven to my family after my nephew made the "Ultimate Sacrifice" as well.
God Bless you all and Keep you in the close Comfort of his Loving Arms.

Only two defining Forces have ever offered to die for you...
Jesus Christ and the American Soldier...
One died for your Soul, the other for your Freedom.

Sincerely,
Sherry Hudson
