Jason Augustine Welty, beloved father, son, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on October 21, 2025, at the age of 50. Born on December 24, 1974, in Gainesville, Florida, Jason grew up in Starke, where he graduated from Bradford High School with the class of 1991. He went on to attend Ohio Northern University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management.
After completing his education, Jason returned to St. Augustine, where he made a mark on the community by opening Flavors Eatery in the Historic District of St. Augustine. After selling Flavors, Jason's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Cold Cow Ice Cream Shop, showcasing his passion for food and service. However, after his father died under hospice care, Jason felt a calling to care for others, leading him to pursue a career in nursing. He trained and graduated as a registered nurse, dedicating many years of his life to hospice care, most recently with Vitas Hospice, where he found immense satisfaction in making a difference in the lives of his patients.
Jason was preceded in death by his father, Richard Welty. He is survived by his loving mother, Patricia Welty; his son, Elias Welty, and daughter, Sabine Welty, both of St. Augustine; sisters, Lenore Welty of St. Augustine and Adrienne Schire and her husband Robert, and their sons, William and Alexander of Middleburg. He was a devoted father who cherished his children deeply, and he took pride in being a positive influence in their lives.
Jason will be remembered for his warm spirit, unwavering dedication to those he loved, and his passion for his work. His legacy of kindness and commitment to service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A private celebration of Jason's life will be held at a later date.
