REID, Mr. Jasper Jr.-age 68, of Flint, passed away Monday, June 9, 2025 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Friday, June 20, 2025 with a 10:30am family hour at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel, 3021 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48507. Calling hours are 1:00pm-6:00pm Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel.
Jasper Reid Jr., was born on March 17, 1957, in Flint, MI to the union of Jasper and Bulah Reid. He was affectionately known as "June" by family and friends. Jasper attended the Flint Public School System and graduated from Northwestern High School as a proud "Wildcat" in 1975. After graduating high school Jasper enlisted as a Marine serving just over three years with an honorable discharge. After returning home, Jasper held various manufacturing jobs and started a family, which included 2 boys and 3 girls. In the late 90's, Jasper planted roots on Marengo Ave, calling it home up until his passing. Jasper was proud of his home and spent the next couple of years restoring it by hand all by himself. He spent countless hours restoring hardware and stripping paint to reveal the original hardwood trimmings of his beautiful home. Jasper was a pillar of his community. He felt it was his duty to ensure the vacant lots on his block were properly maintained and the grass kept cut. Jasper enjoyed taking part in the beautification of his neighborhood. After all, his house was the gathering spot for all the family cookouts and parties. Therefore, he had to ensure Marengo Ave. looked good at all times! Jasper enjoyed painting, entertaining, listening to music, cooking and especially grilling! He was known as the grill master in the family and any and everyone was always welcome to a plate on Marengo Ave. He would literally feed the whole street! Everyone felt comfortable around Jasper. His spirit drew in a crowd and made everyone feel right at home. Seeing his family and friends gather at his home while having a great time listening to his baby sister Quinn DJing, eating a hot piece of catfish his brother Donald fried, and topping it off with a delicious slice of cake his sister Linda baked, brought him so much joy. When Jasper was not doing lawn work or cooking, he enjoyed getting dressed in one of his many suits and "stepping out". Jasper will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Jasper leaves to cherish his loving memory: 2 sons, Beuhammad "Jamal" (Tracy) Spiller of Mandan, ND, Juson Hawkins of Los Angeles, CA; 3 daughters, Jasmine Spiller of Mount Morris, MI, Jaslene (Preston) Black of Detroit, MI, Katessa Belk of Fort Worth, TX; 11 grandchildren, Jayla, Cierra, J'hon, Zy'ehr, Brooklyn, Terill of Flint, MI. DaMiah, Isaiah, Alijah, MaRiyah of Fort, TX and Journey of Detroit, MI; 2 sisters, Linda Bradley and Dequinda (Tyrone) Payne of Flint, MI. 5 brothers, Donald, Gregory (Jean), Keith, Terry of Flint, MI and Michael (Trena) Reid of Detroit, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; a host of friends including special friend Marjorie Myles. Jasper made his transition unexpectedly on June 9, 2025, at his residence in Flint, MI. Jasper was preceded in death by his father, Jasper Reid Sr.; mother, Bulah Reid and sister, Brenda Reid.
