Jay William Guyer, Sr., 96, of East Salem, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on November 29, 1928, in Thompsontown, Juniata County, he is a son of the late David Wharton and Gladys C. (Miller) Guyer. On September 23, 1951, he married his surviving wife, Dolores Elaine (Winey) Guyer, with whom he was blessed to share over 73 years of marriage before his passing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Jay W. "Bill" Guyer, Jr. and his wife Joanne of Cocolamus, Kenneth W. Guyer and his wife Ping Lin of Mifflintown, John Darrell Guyer and his wife Tammy of McAlisterville, and Karen E. Stutts and her husband Roger of Thompsontown; eleven grandchildren, Christopher Guyer and his wife Kimberly, Amber Snyder and her husband Sean, Matt Guyer and his wife Jess, Derick Guyer, Lauryn Guyer and her husband Mike Henry, Baila Lin Guyer, Brynne Gibson and her husband Alex, Ashlyn Haubert and her husband Eric, Clarye Guyer and her fiancé Trey Tusing, Brooke Stutts and companion Corey Suter, and Walker Stutts; ten great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; six siblings, Dale O. Guyer of Thompsontown, Gloria DeLancey of Rockville, Carol J. Kemp of Thompsontown, Bonnie K. Guyer of Thompsontown, Catherine M. Cramer of Millerstown, and Darlene J. Corrigan and husband Jim of Lancaster; and many generations of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by seven siblings, David E. Guyer, Charles L. Guyer, Patricia A. Hess, Wharton Guyer in infancy, Karl R. Guyer, Allen R. Guyer, and George F. Guyer.
Mr. Guyer honorably served our country as a Veteran of Foreign War in the US Army during the Korean War and had proudly served in Germany.
Jay was employed and retired after over 30 years of service to Conrail, Pennsylvania Railroad, and Penn Central.
His memberships included the East Salem Otterbein Global Methodist Church; the NRA; Newport American Legion Post #177; and was an original founding member of the Delaware Township Fire Company No. 6 in East Salem.
He enjoyed going to and participating in car shows and parades with his 1935 Model T pickup and enjoyed hunting; however, his greatest joy came from time spent with his family.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the East Salem Community Church, 7398 Route 235, Mifflintown with Rev. Doug Mellott officiating. Interment will follow at Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
A viewing will be held from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from the East Salem Community Church.
