Jay Albert Jerome Hacker, Jr., age 79 of Athens passed away, Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at his residence.

A native and life-long resident of Athens he was a son of the late Jay Albert Jerome, Sr. and Edna Magdalene Walker Hacker and was preceded in death by an infant sister Patricia Hacker and a grandson, Jeremiah Hacker.

He led a life of love for God, family, country and his community.

After High School he joined the US Army and served in the Vietnam Conflict. He returned to Athens in 1968 and worked for several different sign companies before starting his own in 1970, Hacker Sign Company. He served the McMinn County Republican Party as well as various committees for Senator Bill Frist and Senator Fred Thompson. Jay served faithfully in many local civic organizations, community organizations and on many boards. In his love for the 1955 Chevrolet Nomad, he traveled countless miles across the United States.

He was a loving Husband to his wife of 55 years Susan McNabb Hacker

Father to son and daughter-in-law, Jay III and Heather Hacker;

Brother to, Dennis Hacker, David and Lois Hacker, Roger Hacker, Tony and Paula Hacker and Joe Hacker

Grandfather to, Elijah Hacker;

Great-grandfather to Hayzen Hacker

Uncle to several nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be Friday, October 10, 2025 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Dustin Wildes, Rev. Clifford Watters and Rev. David Lones officiating. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 11, 2025 at McMinn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Lipps, Tim Hooper, Dennis Beavers, Steve Sherlin, Alan Hacker and Elijah Hacker. Honorary pallbearers Dr. Dick Pelley and Jerry Dunlap. The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM prior the service at the funeral home.
