Jay L. Mauger, 87, of Taylors, South Carolina, passed into Glory peacefully at home on Friday morning, February 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Jay lived a life of joyful devotion to his Savior, Jesus Christ, and his family. Known for his calm character, reliability, and quick sense of humor, he was always ready to share a joke and brighten someone's day. Raised on his family farm in Northeast Indiana, he learned early the value of hard work and the importance of family. It was during these early years that Jay and Judy met as teenagers.
Throughout his life, Jay worked in diverse fields, always serving with faith and dedication. He proudly served in the Army National Guard, worked as an Assistant Engineer for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, after he pastored several churches, he became a truck driver and finished his career as a tour bus driver. In every role, he touched countless lives through his steadfast faith, hard work, and warm sense of humor, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Jay is survived by his loving wife of 63 ½ years, Judy Mauger; daughter, Laura (Tom) McGonigal, and grandchildren Brielle, Gavin, Jada, Caelyn, and Kiara; son, David (Allison) Mauger, and grandchildren, Alex, Nathan (Lauren), and Rachel; daughter, Rebekah (Bob) Gorsuch, and grandchildren, Abigail and Micah; and son, Jonathan Mauger, and grandchildren, Jayden, Emma, Jaxson, Jarrett, Joey, Viviana, Mya and Olivia. He is also survived by his sister, Linda (Kenneth) Poulson; and brother, Jack (Judy) Mauger, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
Jay was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Jay Mauger; his grandson, Timothy David Mauger (son of Jonathan); brothers, Richard, Bob and Roger Mauger; and sister, Judy Hartzler. Jay was always known to talk about the day he would enter the gates of Heaven and be reunited with loved ones and friends that passed on in the faith of Christ ahead of him. He spoke most frequently of hugging his mom, son and grandson that passed on before him.
His memory and testimony of faith will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Faith Baptist Church, Taylors, South Carolina; conducted by Pastor David Stockard.
A visitation will be held 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Faith Baptist Church, Taylors, South Carolina.
The family will be at the church.
