Jay Brian "Pete" Shockley, 66, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, in the comfort of his home in Indianapolis, Indiana, surrounded by family.
Born on December 25, 1958, in Beech Grove, Indiana, Jay grew up with a passion for learning and adventure. He attended Central Nine Career Center before graduating from Southport High School in 1977. His career as a Civil Design Engineer at Midstates spanned 21 years, during which he built lifelong friendships that he deeply cherished.
Jay shared a remarkable life with his beloved wife, Mary Shockley. Together for 42 years and married for 30 of them, their bond was one of love and unwavering support. He was a devoted father to Brandy Shockley and stepfather to Rick Smiley and Julie Lang. His legacy continues through his eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Dessie Helen Shockley, as well as his uncle and aunt, Ted and Dorothy "Dot" Miller.
Jay had a vibrant personality- loving, outgoing, strong-willed, intelligent, and hilarious. He had a deep appreciation for music, photography, and traveling. A dedicated collector of pocketknives and many other treasures, he found joy in the little things that made life special. Above all else, he treasured time spent with family and friends. His great lifelong friends Mark Shoemaker and Greg Weile held a special place in his heart.
A Celebration of Life to honor Jay's memory will be on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Victory Christian Church located at 1720 Graham Rd, Franklin, IN 46131
Jay's presence brought laughter and warmth to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
John 14:1-3
"Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also."
