We are deeply saddened to share that Jay Warshawsky, 97, passed away on November 24, 2024, in Alexandria, VA.
Born on March 27, 1927, in Chicago, IL, Jay was the son of Morris and Sara Warshawsky and the older brother of Roy Warshawsky, who passed away on November 4, 2024.
Jay was married to Adrienne Warshawsky for 58 wonderful years until her passing in 2012. He was blessed with a second chapter of 12 years of marriage to Carole Pollner.
Jay was devoted to his children, Dr. Robin Warshawsky (Dr. Howard Guzik), Reuben Warshawsky (Tami Drizin Warshawsky), and Debra Kestenbaum (Matt Kestenbaum); his five grandchildren, Sam Guzik (Deva Estin), Benjamin Guzik (Lara Guzik), Rabbi Josh Warshawsky (Adina Allen), Daniel Warshawsky, and Sara Kestenbaum; and his six great-grandchildren, Nachshon, Ahava, Rex, Milo, Jona, and Ziv - all of whom adored their Pop Jay.
Jay earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, an MS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University. He had a distinguished career as an electrical engineer with GATX and the Carnegie Mellon Research Institute.
He held several leadership positions in the Allentown community, including serving as president of both Temple Beth El and the Allentown Jewish Day School. Most recently, he was a member of Congregation Agudas Achim in Alexandria, VA, where he would participate in services with his lovely voice and share his warmth and joy with all of the congregants.
Jay will be remembered for his boundless optimism, kindness, and respect for everyone he met. Donations in his memory can be made to The Goodwin House, Congregation Agudas Achim, or Hadassah.
Funeral services will be held graveside for close friends and family. Jay's children will observe shiva in their home communities.
Graveside Service: 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Beth El Memorial Park, across from 3900 Mechanicsville Road, Whitehall, PA 18052
