Jay R. Zimpelman

Jay R. Zimpelman, a man of many talents and a heart full of kindness, passed away on January 25, 2025, in South Bend, Indiana, at the age of 74. Born on May 4, 1950, Jay's life was a melody composed of generosity, love, and an ever-present willingness to lend a hand.
Jay's passion for music was not just a career but a way of life and it began at the tender age of 13 and never stopped. He was a natural leader and his passion for music led him to California where he met Jim Morrison, among many others. Jay played Blues in Louisiana with harmonica and guitar and he also played in Arizona. Returning to South Bend, he composed music in a band, then had a different band, BLACKERSABETH and Stand to Prophet performing tributes to Ozzy among other metal songs, with 2 favorite bandmates. Always wearing a smile and round glasses, many of his fans would want pictures. As a musician, he touched countless lives with his melodies and was an active member of various music associations, where his contributions were both valued and cherished.
His talents extended far beyond the stage, as he was truly a jack of all trades, always ready to fix, build, or create whatever was needed. Even during his high school days at Clay High School, he was a fierce football player. With his attitude and long gorgeous hair, he worked as a Vidal Sassoon hair model in CA pictured with his Shine band mates.
Those who knew Jay will remember him as the embodiment of talent and tenacity. His hands, always ready to help, and his heart, always open to give, left an indelible mark on his community and everyone he met. His spiritual path grew stronger and one dear friend says that if you knew Jay's life, you would believe in God. He lived life passionately and will be missed by many.
He leaves behind his beloved girlfriend who shared in his journey and his joy for life. Jay's legacy will resonate in the chords of the music he loved and in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, but his tune will forever play on in the hearts of many.
