Moyer Zimpelman Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 2, 2023.
FORT WORTH - Moyer Zimpelman, Christian, husband, father, and grandfather, died Feb. 24, 2023, at home in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 81.
Moyer was born Nov. 19, 1941, at his family's home in North Manchester, Indiana, the youngest of five, to Carl and Grace Zimpelman.
At age 12, Moyer moved with his family to New Port Richie, Florida. He graduated from Gulf High School in 1959.
Moyer enlisted in the Army in 1960. Upon completion of boot camp, he was assigned to the infantry and sent to Korea. His military occupation specialty was communications and he served as the radio operator for the unit's Executive Officer. His original 12 month assignment to Korea was extended to 18 months. He was stationed in Florida during the Cuban Missile Crisis and eventually finished his military commitment as a sergeant at Fort Benning, Georgia, in 1963.
Following his military service, Moyer remained in Columbus, Georgia. He rented a room at a boarding house where he met his boarding house neighbor, and future wife, Jacqueline Sprouse. He started attending church with Jacqueline while they dated and they were married in July 1964. They moved to the Dallas, Texas area in 1968.
During their marriage, Moyer and Jacqueline were blessed with two boys. Daniel Zimpelman was born in July 1966. Michael Zimpelman was born in December 1972. Moyer was one of Daniel's coaches on his first soccer team and he was one Michael's coaches on his first baseball team.
Moyer had a 34 year career with the telephone company (Bell South, Southwestern Bell, and AT&T). While at the telephone company he worked as a frameman, switchman, residential installer, residential repairman, and cable splicer. He retired in 1998, but continued to teach pole climbing as an independent contractor for several more years.
During his life, Moyer was a generous and warmhearted man. He loved his family and always looked for the good in people. He always gave, even to strangers, and expected nothing in return. Many of the things he did, whether it be the giving of his time or money he donated for specific projects, he never looked for or received recognition, and he wanted it that way.
Moyer cherished the 58 years of marriage he shared with the love of his life, Jacqueline. He was very involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He mourned the loss of his "sweet girl" Mitzi, his Dachshund, but loved spending time with and taking Jake, his German Shepard, for walks.
Moyer was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Grace Zimpelman; four siblings - Joann Teusch, Jerry Zimpelman, Ronnie Zimpelman, and Richard Zimpelman; and one of his sons, Daniel Zimpelman.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Zimpelman; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Leslie Zimpelman; and two grandchildren, Daniel and Ava Zimpelman.
Memorial Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Bridgewood Church of Christ, 6516 Brentwood Stair Rd., Fort Worth, Texas, 76112.
