JD Cook of Colbert, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the age of 69 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Wednesday, January 25, 1956 in Van Alstyne, Texas to Thelma Marie (Jones) and John William Cook.
He married Paula Denise Cook on November 5, 2016 in Colbert, Oklahoma. He worked as a Peace Officer with the Sherman Police Department and then became a bailiff for the Grayson County Justice Center. He worked in law enforcement for a total of 40 years. He also served as a member of the Sherman Masonic Lodge.
JD was also known as a jokester. He enjoyed history and telling stories, and he liked pretty much anything with a motor in it, from tractors, trains, motorcycles, hot rods and cars in general. He loved to cut wood and enjoyed sawmilling. He also had a love for his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thelma Marie (Jones) and John William Cook; stepson Jeffrey Stanglin; and aunt Laura Elizabeth Cook.
Survivors include his wife Paula Cook of Colbert, Oklahoma; daughters Julie Elaine Ordonez of Sherman, Texas, Alyson Marie Cook of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Kassi Cook and husband Anthony of Denison, Texas, Karly Cook of Sherman, Texas; son Jon Dillon Cook of Sherman, Texas; sisters Barbara Ann Townsend and husband Bert of Tom Bean, Texas, Glenda Mata of Van Alstyne, Texas; brothers James Cook of Van Alstyne, Texas, Billy Cook of Van Alstyne, Texas, Wes Cook of Van Alstyne, Texas; grandchildren Tyson Stanglin, Jay Ordonez, Vivian Ordonez, Aiden Cook, Victor Fulgencio, Nathan Fulgencio, Gunter Cook, Kadence Cook, Keatonn Cook, Taytum Cook; as well as other extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Monday, July 14, 2025 at Coleman Avenue Church of Christ, 212 W Coleman Ave. Colbert, Oklahoma with Bro. Lucas Gage officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Enrique Ordonez, Tyson Stanglin, Jay Ordonez, Mike Washer, Anthony Acoba, and Sergio Fulgencio.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Coleman Avenue Church of Christ.
