Jean Mabel Erickson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, in Alexandria, MN, just shy of her 90th birthday. Born on July 12, 1935, in Glenwood, MN, Jean lived a life deeply rooted in love, education, and family.
Jean married her high school sweetheart, Chuck Erickson, on August 19, 1956, at Glenwood Lutheran Church, and they celebrated over 50 wonderful years together. After graduating from Glenwood High School in 1953 and earning her teaching degree from St. Olaf College, Jean and Chuck began their teaching careers in Danube, MN. With a big heart and a passion for education, she dedicated herself to teaching elementary students and those with learning disabilities.
In 1967, the family made their way to Alexandria, where Jean continued to teach and raised her four boys: Scott, Craig, Paul, and Todd. Throughout their growing years, Jean cherished camping trips, cheering at sporting events, and making memories that would last a lifetime. Jean and Chuck both retired in 1991, enjoying nineteen winters in Arizona until Chuck’s health deteriorated.
Jean loved to knit, creating cozy afgans for her loved ones, and enjoyed her card games at Grand Arbor, particularly Bridge and Bananagrams. She was extremely proud of her Norwegian heritage and liked to collect items from Norway. Jean had a special fondness for sweets; she could never resist lemon bars and double-stuffed Oreos.
Jean's heart was anchored in her family. She adored spending time at Lake Carlos, where she created lasting memories with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her caring and kind spirit touched everyone around her, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons; Scott (Kathy) of River Falls, WI, children Josh (Becky), Gabe (Tasha), and Melissa (In God’s hands); Craig (Chris), sons Brett (Mary), Bryan Tracy), and Mitch; Paul (Lee Ann), daughters Avary (Travis) Tomford and Alicia Erickson; Todd (In God’s hands), daughter Ashley Gummer; many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
