Jean Everest Obituary
Jean Ludlum Everest, born on September 16, 1944, unpacked her suitcase in heaven on October 17, 2025, at the age of 81. She was a source of love, strength and wisdom to all who knew her. While we mourn her loss, we also find comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved son, Wade, whom she missed dearly.
Jean retired with flair from the famous Captain Nance Calabash Seafood Restaurant after two decades of dedicated service. Her presence was as much of a staple there as the hush puppies and shrimp platters. As Jimmy Durante would quip, "Good night Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are!"
An avid gardener and fishing enthusiast, Jean had the magical ability to coax blooms from the most stubborn soil and reel in fish that could have starred in their own tall tales. Her green thumb and fishing prowess were second only to her wit and charm.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Barney Ludlum and Dora Mae Hughes; her husband of 20 years, Glenn Everest; her son, Billy Wade Russ II; and her sister, Yvonne Ward.
Surviving are her daughters, Sheila Marie Morgan and Philia Morgan; three grandchildren, Terra Jenrette, Philip Hall, and Morgan Canady; and four great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Frances Grissett, Mavis Anderson, and Janice Morgan.
In keeping with Jean's no-fuss approach to life, no services are planned at this time. Her family encourages you to plant a flower, catch a fish, or simply enjoy a good laugh in her honor.
Jean is in her eternal home- enjoying fields of flowers, where the fish are always biting and the rainbows shine forever.
